DGCA Question Bank For CPL and ATPL
A good DGCA question bank for CPL and ATPL gives you thousands of exam-style multiple-choice questions, sorted by subject and chapter, with explanations and a record of what you get wrong. RAPT, the Rian Air Assessment & Practice Tool, offers 20,000+ questions with study mode, test mode and offline use for students in Delhi, Mumbai, Thrissur and beyond.
Key takeaways
- Pass mark: DGCA theory papers need at least 70% in each subject, so practice should aim well above that line.
- Coverage: RAPT holds 20,000+ questions for both CPL and ATPL, in one app on web, Android and iOS.
- Flexible practice: You can test by chapter, mix chapters, or run all 29 chapters of a subject in DGCA style, at easy, medium or hard level.
- Working pilots: Offline mode lets first officers study without internet, then back up progress once online.
- Method beats volume: Re-attempting wrong questions and clearing flagged ones before the exam matters more than doing more new questions.
- Access: Almost 25% of RAPT is free as demo questions. CPL access is included in Rian Air ground training. ATPL access is free for the first 100 first officers.

What should a DGCA question bank for CPL and ATPL include?
A useful question bank should match the DGCA computer-based format, cover every subject chapter by chapter, explain each answer, and track your weak areas. Size matters less than structure. A bank you cannot filter, review or use offline will not fit around a real study schedule.
The DGCA sets the pass mark at 70% per subject, as one passing-marks guide reports. Because each subject is judged on its own, a strong Meteorology score cannot rescue a weak Navigation paper.
Use this checklist when judging any bank, including ours:
- Questions grouped by subject and chapter
- Explanations, not just answer keys
- A timed, DGCA-style test mode
- Automatic tracking of weak chapters
- Works on your phone, including offline
- Questions that stay current with the syllabus
Free banks and paid banks both exist. Some sell a single subject, and one Air Navigation bank is listed at ₹3,999 on a question bank listing. Compare what you get, not only the price.
Always check the current DGCA syllabus and fees before you plan your exams. Syllabus and fee details can change, and the DGCA is the final authority.
Subjects the question bank must cover
For the CPL, the written subjects are Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, Air Regulations, Technical General and Technical Specific (single and multi engine), plus RTR as a separate radio telephony component. Our printable syllabus checklist lists each one.
For the ATPL, the theory papers include Air Navigation, Radio Aids and Instruments, and Aviation Meteorology, followed by orals. Our guide to ATPL preparation in India covers the sequence.
Air Navigation and Meteorology are widely reported to carry the highest failure rates because of numerical complexity. That is why chapter-level practice on those two subjects pays off first.
What is RAPT and how does its question bank work?
RAPT is the Rian Air Assessment & Practice Tool, which Rian Air describes as India's first technology-driven pilot training ecosystem. Its question bank holds 20,000+ DGCA-aligned questions for CPL and ATPL, and works on web, Android and iOS. It is built for students and for pilots already flying.
Beyond questions, RAPT also holds simulator data, performance analytics and a digital logbook. This article focuses on the question bank. You can read more on the RAPT platform page.
RAPT questions are updated bi-weekly. Our team adds new questions as and when required, and any update goes live immediately.
Access and pricing
- Free demo: almost 25% of the RAPT questions are free to try.
- CPL students: the full question bank is included during Rian Air ground training. If you are not joining ground training, contact us to know pricing.

When are you ready to book the DGCA exam?
Within Rian Air ground training, RAPT is also part of the DGCA exam promise. Before each attempt covered by the promise, the student must have achieved, in the overall subject:
- 85% or above in at least 5 RAPT assessments, and
- above 90% in at least 3 RAPT assessments.
The student also needs a minimum of 90% attendance and approval from one Rian Air instructor and one admin before each attempt. These are the same marks we suggest as a readiness rule for any student: well above the 70% pass line, repeated, not a single lucky score.
Students who solve RAPT as guided are prepared for the DGCA paper. Students who cannot solve RAPT should not expect to solve the DGCA paper. If scores are not satisfactory, appearing anyway is the student's own risk. Terms and conditions apply, so ask for the full T&C sheet through the enquiry form.
On results, Rian Air shows a 97% DGCA pass rate. In our experience, the students who fail are those who quit the programme.
RAPT features in detail
Study mode and test mode
Study mode shows answers and explanations as you go, so you learn the concept. Test mode hides them and times you, which copies exam pressure. Use study mode first for a new chapter, then switch to test mode.
Chapterwise and custom tests
You can test one chapter, pick a mix such as chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 together, or run all 29 chapters of a subject at once in DGCA style. This lets you drill a weak topic or rehearse the full paper.
Easy, medium and hard sets
One click builds a question set at the difficulty you choose. Start easy to build confidence, then move to hard sets before the exam, so a tricky paper does not surprise you.
Set a DGCA-style paper
RAPT can assemble a paper that follows the DGCA pattern. Sit it in one go, without pausing, to learn your real pace.
Re-attempt wrong questions and flagged questions
Every missed question goes into a re-attempt list. You can also flag questions mid-test and solve them again before the exam. This habit turns mistakes into your best revision material.
Progress tracking
Scores are tracked by subject and chapter, so you can see which areas lag. Parents or sponsors who follow training can also use the separate parent dashboard.
Offline mode and backup
Study without a connection, then let the app back up your data when you are online again. Nothing is lost if a flight roster takes you out of coverage.
Using RAPT as a working first officer for ATPL
First officers rarely have fixed study hours. Layovers, standby days and patchy hotel Wi-Fi break routines. Offline mode suits this: download, study in short sessions, and sync later.
Pick one ATPL subject at a time, run chapterwise tests in 20-minute blocks, and keep the re-attempt list for the final week. For app-selection tips, see our piece on the best ATPL app for pilots in India.
How do you use a question bank to pass in the first attempt?
Work chapter by chapter, review every wrong answer, then sit full DGCA-style papers until you consistently score well above 70%. Finish with flagged and wrong questions in the last days. Repetition with review beats reading a huge number of new questions once.
- Learn the chapter: attend class or read, then use study mode.
- Test the chapter: run a chapterwise test in test mode.
- Review errors: re-attempt wrong questions the next day.
- Mix chapters: after four chapters, take a custom mixed test.
- Raise difficulty: move from easy to medium to hard sets.
- Rehearse: sit full DGCA-style papers and clear flagged questions.
- Check readiness: aim for 85% or above in at least 5 RAPT assessments and above 90% in at least 3 before booking.
Hypothetical example: a student scores 62% in a Navigation chapter test. She re-attempts the 38 missed questions the next morning, scores 80%, then moves to a medium set. That loop is what lifts a score, not extra volume.
More tips are in our guide to passing the DGCA exam in the first attempt.
Common mistakes when using a question bank
- Memorising answers: DGCA-style papers change wording, so understand the reasoning.
- Skipping weak chapters: you feel better on strong ones, but the weak ones fail you.
- Never timing yourself: a two-hour paper needs pacing practice.
- Ignoring the syllabus: a bank supports class learning, it does not replace it.

Frequently asked questions
What is a DGCA question bank?
A DGCA question bank is a collection of multiple-choice questions modelled on DGCA CPL and ATPL theory exams, grouped by subject and chapter so pilots can practise and measure readiness before sitting the real computer-based paper.
How many questions does RAPT have?
RAPT holds 20,000+ questions covering CPL and ATPL subjects. The number matters less than how you use it: chapter tests, review of wrong answers and full DGCA-style papers.
Is RAPT free?
Almost 25% of the questions are free as demo questions. CPL access is included in ground training. ATPL access is free for the first 100 first officers.
Can I use RAPT without internet?
Yes. Offline mode lets you study without a connection, and your data is backed up once you are online again. This helps pilots who travel often.
Is the question bank only for CPL students?
No. It also serves first officers and commercial pilots preparing for ATPL theory, not only students working toward a CPL.
What is the DGCA pass mark?
You need at least 70% in each subject, as this DGCA exam guide reports. Each subject is assessed separately, so you retake only the paper you failed.
Can I build my own test from selected chapters?
Yes. Choose a single chapter, a custom mix such as chapters 1 to 4, or all 29 chapters in DGCA style.
Can I choose easy, medium or hard questions?
Yes. RAPT creates a set at the chosen difficulty with one click, which helps you progress from basics to exam-level questions.
How do I revise my mistakes?
Use the re-attempt option for wrong questions and the flagged list for doubtful ones. Clear both before exam day.
How much does the DGCA exam cost?
Rian Air's information puts a regular attempt at ₹2,500 and an older-pattern attempt at ₹5,000 per exam. Check the current fee with the DGCA before booking.
What medical do I need?
Medicals cost between ₹6,000 and ₹25,000 depending on type and centre. Read about Class 2 medicals before ground training; Class 1 is needed before flight training.
After CPL, what next?
Most pilots build hours, pursue a type rating and apply for airline or other roles. See the pathways after CPL compared. Hour-building and ATPL theory can run in parallel.
Does Rian Air offer a money-back promise?
If a student meets the attendance, RAPT and approval conditions and still does not clear the subject after the third eligible attempt, Rian Air refunds the ground training fee paid for that subject. Terms and conditions apply. Ask for the T&C sheet through the enquiry form.
Start practising with a plan
A DGCA question bank for CPL and ATPL works only when you review your errors and test under exam conditions. If you want to see RAPT in action, start your pilot journey with an enquiry and ask for a walkthrough.
